Prime Minister Narendra Modi says trust and cooperation between India and Seychelles have deepened over the past decade

June 28, 2026: Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed the Seychelles National Assembly on Sunday, becoming the first Indian Prime Minister to speak before the country’s legislature. Calling it a privilege, he extended greetings from 1.4 billion Indians and congratulated Seychelles on completing 50 years of independence.

Modi recalled his 2015 visit to Seychelles, which was his first overseas trip to the Indian Ocean region after assuming office as Prime Minister. He said Seychelles has always occupied a special place in India’s vision for the Indian Ocean and highlighted the steady growth of bilateral relations over the past decade.

The Prime Minister said India and Seychelles have strengthened cooperation across several sectors, built on mutual trust and shared interests. He also referred to emerging areas such as green hydrogen, expressing confidence that the strategic partnership between the two nations would continue to expand in the years ahead.
