Narendra Modi and Ulf Kristersson discussed trade, technology, defence and innovation during high-level talks in Sweden.
May 18, 2026: Narendra Modi on Monday described his Sweden visit as “highly productive” after concluding wide-ranging discussions with Swedish Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson. The two leaders agreed to elevate India-Sweden relations to a Strategic Partnership, marking a major step forward in bilateral ties.
During the two-day visit to Sweden, the leaders launched the Joint Innovation Partnership 2.0 and the India-Sweden Technology and Artificial Intelligence Corridor. Discussions also focused on strengthening cooperation in trade, defence, advanced technology and innovation sectors.
PM Modi said both countries had set an ambitious target of doubling bilateral trade within the next five years. The talks reviewed the full spectrum of India-Sweden relations and aimed at expanding collaboration in emerging strategic sectors.
