The Indian High Commission welcomed Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese’s remarks on India’s growing global role
May 28, 2026: The Indian High Commission in Canberra on Thursday expressed appreciation for remarks made by Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese in the Australian Parliament, where he praised India’s rising global influence and acknowledged the contribution of the Indian diaspora in Australia. In a statement shared on X, the High Commission said Albanese’s comments reflected the growing strength of the India-Australia Comprehensive Strategic Partnership based on shared democratic values and strong people-to-people ties.
During his address, Albanese described India as one of the world’s fastest-growing economies and called it a major opportunity for Australia in the Indo-Pacific region. He highlighted stronger trade ties through the Economic Cooperation and Trade Agreement and noted that the two countries are connected through culture, education, and cricket. Albanese also recalled his visits to India and said he looked forward to hosting Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Australia once again. He further praised the million-strong Indian-Australian community for its contribution to the Australian economy and society.
Meanwhile, Prime Minister Modi recently met Australian Foreign Minister Penny Wong and discussed expanding cooperation in defence, trade, technology, critical minerals, and Indo-Pacific security. The discussions took place during Wong’s visit to India for the Quad Foreign Ministers’ Meeting and the India-Australia Foreign Ministers’ Framework Dialogue in New Delhi. External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar said the talks highlighted the growing depth and scope of India-Australia relations.
