Baidyanath Ghosh Dastidar, son of rebel TMC MP Kakoli Ghosh Dastidar, has sent a legal notice to Mamata Banerjee

June 14, 2026: Fresh trouble has emerged for West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee as Baidyanath Ghosh Dastidar, son of rebel Trinamool Congress MP Kakoli Ghosh Dastidar, issued a legal notice to the TMC chief and several senior party leaders. The notice objects to statements allegedly claiming that he sought a party ticket to contest the upcoming Assembly elections from the Barasat constituency. Apart from Banerjee, the notice was sent to leaders including Mahua Moitra, Kalyan Banerjee, Sougata Roy, and Sonali Guha.

Baidyanath, a psychiatrist by profession, publicly denied the allegations and accused Mahua Moitra of spreading false information about him. He stated that political disagreements should be addressed politically rather than involving family members and private individuals. The legal notice highlights his professional background, including training at institutions such as Massachusetts General Hospital, Harvard University, and the Central and North West London NHS Foundation Trust in London, and claims that the statements have harmed his reputation.

The notice further alleges that representatives of political consultancy firm IPAC had approached Baidyanath and encouraged him to consider contesting from Barasat, contrary to claims that he had actively sought a ticket. It demands that the leaders concerned withdraw the alleged defamatory statements, issue a public clarification, and apologise within 15 days. The notice warns that failure to comply could lead to civil and criminal legal proceedings. So far, neither Mamata Banerjee nor the other leaders named in the notice have responded publicly.
