Police halted a double-decker DJ vehicle over safety concerns, while a viral video of a participant allegedly threatening an officer
July 12, 2026: A confrontation during the Kanwar Yatra in Muzaffarnagar, Uttar Pradesh, has sparked controversy after a viral video showed a participant allegedly threatening a police officer. The incident took place at Shiv Chowk, where police stopped a double-decker DJ vehicle carrying devotees dancing on top, citing safety concerns due to rain and overhead high-voltage power lines. The action led to a heated argument, temporary road blockage, and tense exchanges between some Kanwar pilgrims and police personnel.
The viral video appears to show an individual warning the station house officer that his uniform could be “removed within five minutes,” drawing widespread attention on social media. Senior police officials later reached the spot, spoke with the devotees, and restored order, allowing the Kanwar Yatra to continue without further disruption. The individual in the video later claimed that the police officer’s behaviour had provoked the confrontation.
Police said they had intervened to prevent a possible accident involving the elevated DJ platform and overhead electricity lines. Authorities are now examining the viral footage and have indicated that legal action will be taken if required based on the findings. The incident has renewed discussions on balancing religious processions with public safety, crowd management, and compliance with lawful instructions during large public gatherings.
