A 28-year-old woman from Uganda, isolated in Bengaluru after showing mild symptoms, has tested negative for the Ebola virus
May 27, 2026: Dinesh Gundu Rao on Wednesday confirmed that a 28-year-old woman from Uganda, who was isolated at a government hospital in Bengaluru over suspected Ebola symptoms, has tested negative for the virus. The Karnataka Health Minister said all required medical protocols and precautionary measures were followed and urged citizens not to panic or spread misinformation.
The woman had arrived at Kempegowda International Airport on May 23 after travelling from Uganda via Ahmedabad. During post-arrival monitoring, authorities noticed signs of fatigue and mild symptoms, following which she was shifted to the state-run Epidemic Diseases Hospital in Indiranagar for observation and testing. The Union Health Ministry also clarified that no Ebola Virus Disease case had been confirmed in India.
Health officials said the woman remains stable and under observation, with another test scheduled after 48 hours as part of standard precautionary protocol. Karnataka health department principal secretary Ritvik Ranjanam Pandey stated that authorities were still assessing whether the symptoms had any connection to Ebola. Surveillance and screening measures continue at airports and public health facilities in line with World Health Organisation guidelines.
