The Parliamentary Affairs Minister said the government could not ignore NCPI’s request for recognition ahead of the Monsoon Session.
July 19, 2026: Union Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju on Sunday defended the Centre’s decision to invite Trinamool Congress (TMC) rebels to the all-party meeting held ahead of the Monsoon Session of Parliament. Responding to the Opposition’s objections, Rijiju said it was the government’s responsibility to invite all concerned parties.
Speaking about the Nationalist Citizen Party of India (NCPI), Rijiju said the party had sought recognition from the Lok Sabha Speaker and questioned how such a request could be ignored. His remarks came after Opposition leaders staged a symbolic walkout from the all-party meeting, protesting the invitation extended to the newly formed party led by former TMC leaders.
The Monsoon Session of Parliament is scheduled to begin on Monday and will continue until August 13. Several key political and legislative issues are expected to dominate the session, with both the government and the Opposition preparing for heated debates.
