As temperatures cross 45°C in parts of North India, authorities roll out relief measures and safety advisories to tackle the heatwave.

April 27, 2026: Severe heatwave conditions have engulfed several parts of North India, with temperatures soaring between 40°C and 45°C, causing widespread discomfort. Incidents of air-conditioner overheating and fire hazards have also been reported, raising concerns over power load and safety during peak summer demand. Authorities have urged people to use cooling appliances cautiously and avoid travel during peak afternoon hours.

In Lucknow, the municipal corporation has set up cooling points across the city to provide relief to pedestrians. These centres offer seating, fans, coolers, drinking water, and resting spaces, with nearly 50 such facilities planned. The initiative has been welcomed by residents as daytime movement becomes increasingly difficult due to extreme heat.

Meanwhile, in Jaipur, the impact of the heatwave has extended to livestock as well. Special arrangements, including water sprinklers, have been introduced at local gaushalas to reduce heat stress among cattle. With high temperatures expected to persist, authorities across states are advising citizens to stay hydrated, avoid direct sun exposure, and follow precautions, while emergency and public health systems remain on alert.
