Ahead of the Maharashtra Legislature’s Monsoon Session, Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis mocked the Opposition’s memorandum
June 22, 2026: Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on Sunday took a swipe at the Opposition ahead of the Monsoon Session of the state legislature, claiming that the memorandum submitted by opposition parties appeared to have been generated using ChatGPT. Criticising the Opposition for skipping the traditional high-tea meeting before the session, Fadnavis said the gathering could have served as a platform for meaningful discussions. Instead, the Opposition submitted a six-page memorandum outlining its concerns. After reviewing the document, the Chief Minister remarked that it seemed to have been prepared with the help of artificial intelligence, suggesting that the Opposition had run out of fresh ideas and was relying on technology to draft its arguments.
While making the remarks in a light-hearted manner, Fadnavis said it was encouraging to see the Opposition embracing new technology, noting that artificial intelligence would play a significant role in the future. He further alleged that many of the issues raised in the memorandum had already been discussed and addressed by the government in previous years, adding that several sections appeared to be repeated from earlier submissions. The Chief Minister maintained that the government remained open to discussion but questioned the originality and relevance of the Opposition’s demands.
Fadnavis also highlighted the state’s farm loan waiver programme, stating that nearly 56 lakh farmers are expected to benefit from the ₹36,585-crore package, which he described as Maharashtra’s largest debt relief initiative. Addressing concerns over a delayed monsoon and rainfall deficits across several regions, he urged farmers to follow official advisories and begin sowing only after adequate rainfall. He said the government was closely monitoring water availability and had introduced restrictions on certain agricultural water usage to safeguard drinking water supplies. The Monsoon Session, beginning on June 22, is expected to witness intense debates as the Opposition prepares to challenge the government on issues related to farmers, governance and welfare schemes.
