West Bengal CM vows to unite Opposition as BJP dismisses her claims

April 24, 2026: Mamata Banerjee launched a sharp attack on the Bharatiya Janata Party during a rally in Kolkata, declaring that she would aim to challenge the party at the national level after securing victory in the state elections. Addressing supporters in Chowringhee, she said her focus remains on Bengal but signalled broader ambitions, asserting that she would unite Opposition parties to “dismantle” the BJP in Delhi.

Banerjee emphasised her connection to Bengal, stating that her political journey is rooted in the state, even as she outlined plans for a wider national role. Campaigning for Nayna Bandopadhyay, she positioned the election as a fight against injustice and a step toward reshaping the political landscape beyond the state.

Responding to her remarks, Amit Shah dismissed the claims, questioning her political standing in the state. Meanwhile, polling across West Bengal has seen strong participation, with a high turnout reflecting the intensity of the contest between the ruling Trinamool Congress and the BJP.
