Top opposition leaders met in New Delhi to discuss strategy against the BJP, while concerns over electoral issues

June 8, 2026: Senior leaders of the INDIA bloc convened at the Constitution Club in New Delhi on Sunday for a crucial meeting aimed at strengthening opposition coordination against the BJP. Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge, Rahul Gandhi, Sonia Gandhi, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, Akhilesh Yadav, Tejashwi Yadav, Omar Abdullah and several Left leaders attended the gathering. Shiv Sena (UBT) chief Uddhav Thackeray joined virtually, while representatives from 23 parties participated in the discussions.

During the meeting, Mamata Banerjee reportedly raised concerns about alleged electoral irregularities in West Bengal and claimed that the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) exercise had benefited the BJP. Congress leader KC Venugopal said the opposition remained focused on unity and accused the BJP of being uneasy about the alliance’s growing coordination. The meeting also explored strategies for upcoming political battles and ways to strengthen cooperation among opposition parties.

However, internal differences within the alliance were also highlighted. CPI General Secretary D Raja and other Left leaders expressed concerns over remarks made by Congress leaders during the Kerala Assembly election campaign, stressing the need for mutual trust and respect among alliance partners. Despite these differences, opposition leaders reiterated their commitment to working together against the BJP and evolving a common political strategy ahead of future elections.
