US Secretary of State Marco Rubio highlighted the growing strategic partnership between India

May 23, 2026: United States Secretary of State Marco Rubio on Saturday described India-US ties as “incredibly important” and said both countries are expected to make “exciting and new announcements” soon to further strengthen their strategic partnership. Rubio made the remarks while inaugurating the new US Embassy Support Annex Building in New Delhi during his official visit to India. US Ambassador Sergio Gor was also present at the ceremony.

Rubio said his visit aimed to reaffirm Washington’s commitment to India and expand cooperation across several sectors. He also announced a new “America First” visa schedule that will prioritise business professionals contributing to economic and strategic ties between the two nations. According to Rubio, the new embassy facility will improve visa processing efficiency, support American personnel in India and help reduce operational costs while advancing US national interests.

Highlighting India’s importance in the Indo-Pacific region, Rubio said his first official engagement as Secretary of State was a meeting of the Quad grouping, which includes India, the United States, Japan and Australia. He said the Quad remains central to America’s Indo-Pacific strategy and described India as a key partner in maintaining regional cooperation and stability.
