The Madhya Pradesh High Court ruled that the disputed Bhojshala site is a temple dedicated to Goddess Saraswati

May 15, 2026: Madhya Pradesh High Court on Friday declared the disputed Bhojshala site as a temple dedicated to Goddess Saraswati. The verdict comes after prolonged legal and religious disputes surrounding the historical site in Madhya Pradesh’s Dhar district.

While recognising the site as a Hindu temple, the court also addressed concerns related to the religious rights of the Muslim community. The bench observed that the state government could consider any application seeking allotment of alternative land in Dhar for the construction of a mosque.

The Bhojshala complex has remained a sensitive and contested site for years, with both Hindu and Muslim groups laying claim to its religious significance. The latest ruling is expected to have major social and political implications in the state, with authorities likely to focus on maintaining law and order following the judgment.
