Nepal Foreign Minister Shishir Khanal said Kathmandu is committed to resolving border issues with India through dialogue
June 7, 2026: Nepal Foreign Minister Shishir Khanal has said that his country is willing to resolve long-standing border issues with India through diplomacy and constructive dialogue. Speaking during a media interaction in New Delhi, Khanal stressed that no challenge is too difficult when both sides engage with openness and mutual understanding. He said Nepal views India with a clear and transparent agenda focused on economic transformation and stronger bilateral cooperation.
Khanal highlighted that Kathmandu is pursuing a practical and data-driven approach to addressing sensitive issues rather than resorting to political rhetoric. Emphasising the importance of stable ties, he said Nepal does not see its relationship with India through the lens of geopolitical competition. The minister also praised India’s rapid rise as a global economic and technology powerhouse, describing it as a source of opportunity for regional growth and cooperation.
The remarks came during Khanal’s three-day visit to India, where he held discussions with External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar. His visit follows renewed attention on the India-Nepal boundary dispute after recent comments by Nepal Prime Minister Balendra Shah sparked political debate. Despite the ongoing boundary issue, Khanal reaffirmed Nepal’s commitment to dialogue, economic partnership, and maintaining strong and stable relations with New Delhi.
