April 8, 2026: Amid growing political speculation in Bihar, rumours have surfaced that Chief Minister Nitish Kumar may step down after taking oath as a Rajya Sabha member. However, senior JD(U) leader Shravan Kumar dismissed reports of an immediate resignation, stating that constitutional provisions allow a leader to continue as Chief Minister for up to six months even after being elected to the Rajya Sabha. He urged people not to rely on unverified claims.
Shravan Kumar highlighted that Nitish Kumar is known for making independent political decisions, making it difficult to predict his next move. He also clarified that there is no confirmed information about when the Chief Minister will travel to Delhi to take the oath. Notably, Nitish Kumar has already resigned from the Legislative Council, adding to the speculation around his future political course.
Responding to discussions around leadership succession, Shravan Kumar said that demands to appoint Nishant Kumar as Chief Minister are not unreasonable. He described Nishant as young, capable and well-educated, but emphasised that any decision will ultimately be taken by Nitish Kumar and the party leadership. The political debate continues to gain momentum across the state.
