Leadership uncertainty grows as Nitish Kumar’s Delhi visit fuels speculation

April 2, 2026: Political uncertainty has intensified in Bihar amid reports that Chief Minister Nitish Kumar may step down within days. According to sources, Kumar is scheduled to visit Delhi on April 9, where he is expected to be sworn in as a Rajya Sabha member on April 10. He may also meet Narendra Modi on April 11 to discuss the formation of a new government in the state before returning to Patna shortly after.

Sources indicate that a meeting of the National Democratic Alliance could take place in Patna on April 13 to deliberate on leadership and government formation. Kumar is likely to resign as Chief Minister after April 14, following the end of Kharmas. An NDA Legislature Party meeting is expected to elect a new leader, with the formation of a fresh government likely around April 18.

Amid the political developments, Kumar has continued to focus on governance and infrastructure. On April 2, he reviewed several development projects across Patna, including park facilities in Pataliputra Colony and key road expansion works connecting Nehru Path, Patali Path, and Saguna Mor. The ongoing inspections signal continuity in administration even as the state braces for a possible leadership transition.
