Jewar Mega Hub to Ease Delhi Air Traffic, Boost Regional Connectivity
May 1, 2026: The much-awaited Noida International Airport is set to begin operations from June 15, marking a major milestone for aviation in north India. Located in Jewar, Uttar Pradesh, the airport is expected to reduce pressure on Indira Gandhi International Airport. Officials confirmed that the project has received clearance for its Aerodrome Security Programme from the Bureau of Civil Aviation Security, triggering the mandatory 45-day countdown to launch.
Budget airline IndiGo is likely to be the first carrier to operate from the airport, with Akasa Air and Air India Express also preparing to roll out services. Initial domestic routes may include Mumbai, Hyderabad and Kolkata, while international operations—particularly to West Asia and Southeast Asia—are expected to begin a few months later. Discussions on flight schedules and ticket bookings are currently underway.
Built at an estimated cost of ₹11,200 crore, the airport’s first phase will feature a single runway and terminal capable of handling 12 million passengers annually. Once fully developed in four phases, the capacity is projected to reach 70 million passengers per year. Strategically positioned along the Yamuna Expressway, the airport is expected to emerge as a key aviation hub, boosting regional connectivity and easing congestion in the National Capital Region.
