The aviation landscape of the National Capital Region (NCR) is set for a historic shift as the Noida International Airport (NIA) in Jewar is scheduled to commence commercial operations on June 15, 2026.
This milestone follows the recent approval of the airport’s Aerodrome Security Programme (ASP) by the Bureau of Civil Aviation Security (BCAS), which initiated the final 45-day countdown to the launch. Designed to de-congest Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport, the new hub is expected to transform connectivity for the Gautam Buddh Nagar district and beyond.
Indigo, Akasa, and Air India Express Lead the Launch
Budget giant IndiGo has been confirmed to operate the first passenger flight from the greenfield airport. Following closely are Akasa Air and Air India Express, with initial domestic routes targeting major metros like Mumbai, Hyderabad, Kolkata, and Bengaluru. Air India Express has already outlined plans for twice-daily services to Bengaluru. While international operations are expected to follow a few months after domestic stabilization, several carriers from West Asia and Southeast Asia have already expressed strong interest in slots.
Infrastructure and Capacity
Developed at an estimated cost of ₹11,200 crore under a public-private partnership, the first phase of the airport features:
- Runways: A single functional runway and one passenger terminal.
- Capacity: An initial annual passenger capacity of 12 million.
- Future Growth: At full build-out across four phases, the airport is projected to handle up to 70 million passengers annually.
Strategically located along the Yamuna Expressway, the airport is not just an aviation project but a major economic driver for North India. Officials are currently in active discussions with airlines to finalize flight schedules, with ticket bookings expected to open shortly.
