Government expands e-Shram’s reach with multilingual support and mobile application to enhance accessibility for unorganised workers.
New Delhi, March 10: The e-Shram portal has surpassed 30.68 crore registrations as of March 3, 2025, with women making up 53.68% of the total registered unorganised workers, the Ministry of Labour and Employment announced.
Launched on August 26, 2021, the e-Shram portal (eshram.gov.in) was developed to create a comprehensive National Database of Unorganised Workers (NDUW). It assigns a Universal Account Number (UAN) to registered workers, enabling access to government welfare schemes and social security benefits.
Expanding its services, the Ministry of Labour and Employment introduced e-Shram as a “One-Stop-Solution” for unorganised workers on October 21, 2024. The initiative integrates multiple central government welfare schemes, ensuring seamless access to benefits.
Major Welfare Schemes Integrated with e-Shram
So far, 13 central government schemes have been mapped onto the e-Shram portal, including:
- PM-SVANidhi: Supporting street vendors through micro-credit facilities.
- PMSBY & PMJJBY: Offering accident and life insurance cover.
- MGNREGA: Providing guaranteed rural employment.
- PMAY-G & PMAY-U: Ensuring affordable housing for rural and urban workers.
- AB-PMJAY: Extending health coverage under Ayushman Bharat.
- PMMSY & PM-KMY: Supporting fisheries and farmers with pension schemes.
To further enhance accessibility, the government launched multilingual functionality on January 7, 2025, allowing workers to navigate the platform in 22 Indian languages using the Bhashini platform. This feature aims to promote inclusivity and ease of use for workers from diverse linguistic backgrounds.
Additionally, on February 24, 2025, the government rolled out the e-Shram mobile application, enabling real-time access to welfare schemes and improving convenience for millions of unorganised workers.
The e-Shram initiative continues to bridge the gap between unorganised workers and government welfare, ensuring financial security and social protection for one of India’s most vulnerable workforce segments.
