AIMIM MP Asaduddin Owaisi criticised the Madhya Pradesh High Court’s Bhojshala verdict and said the Muslim side would challenge the order in the Supreme Court.
May 15, 2026: Asaduddin Owaisi on Friday strongly objected to the ruling of the Madhya Pradesh High Court declaring the disputed Bhojshala Complex a temple dedicated to Goddess Saraswati. Owaisi said the judgment carried “glaring similarities” to the Babri Masjid demolition case and expressed hope that the Supreme Court of India would overturn the order.
In a post on X, the AIMIM leader said, “We hope the Supreme Court will set this right and overturn this order.” The Muslim side involved in the dispute also announced plans to challenge the verdict before the apex court. Dhar Shahar Qazi Waqar Sadiq said the decision would be reviewed and appealed in the Supreme Court.
The High Court, in a significant ruling on the decades-old dispute, declared the Bhojshala premises a temple and upheld the right of Hindus to worship at the site. The bench observed that archaeology is a scientific discipline and said conclusions drawn from scientific studies could be relied upon while deciding such matters.
Referring to historical and archaeological findings, the court noted that during the reign of Paramara king Bhoj, the site functioned as a centre for Sanskrit learning and housed a temple dedicated to Goddess Saraswati. The court also recognised the complex as a protected monument and suggested that the government and the Archaeological Survey of India explore the possibility of reviving Sanskrit education within the premises.
The bench further observed that the Centre could consider efforts to bring back the Vagdevi idol to India and reinstall it at the site. The ASI had begun its scientific survey of the Bhojshala-Kamal Maula complex in March 2024 following court directions and later submitted its report after a 98-day examination
