Police have detained three persons for questioning in connection with the killing of BJP leader Suvendu Adhikari’s personal assistant

May 7, 2026: At least three individuals have been detained for questioning in the murder case of Chandranath Rath, personal assistant of West Bengal BJP leader Suvendu Adhikari. According to police officials, investigation is ongoing, with several suspects being interrogated as part of a widening probe into the targeted shooting incident in Madhyamgram, North 24 Parganas.

Rath, who had worked closely with Adhikari for nearly five years, was shot dead by unidentified bike-borne assailants while returning home. Police sources said a car was used to block his vehicle before the attackers opened fire and fled. Early investigation suggests the use of fake number plates and a possible planned reconnaissance ahead of the attack.

Forensic teams have collected evidence, including bullet shells and CCTV footage, while officials continue tracing the vehicle used in the crime. Rath’s family has demanded strict punishment, alleging political motives behind the killing. Bharatiya Janata Party leaders have also informed senior authorities, calling the incident a “planned and cold-blooded murder,” as the investigation continues.
