Prime Minister Narendra Modi received a ceremonial welcome in Abu Dhabi as India and the UAE began high-level talks
May 15, 2026: Narendra Modi arrived in Abu Dhabi on Friday, where he was accorded a grand ceremonial welcome, including a Guard of Honour. In a significant gesture reflecting the close ties between the two countries, the Prime Minister’s aircraft was escorted by fighter jets of the United Arab Emirates as it entered UAE airspace.
PM Modi was personally received by the UAE President before delegation-level talks commenced between the two sides. The discussions are primarily focused on strengthening bilateral cooperation, particularly in the field of energy security, at a time when global geopolitical tensions and instability in West Asia continue to affect energy markets and supply chains worldwide.
India and the UAE are expected to sign several important memorandums of understanding in the energy sector during the visit. The UAE remains one of India’s key energy partners, while India continues to be an important strategic and economic partner for the Gulf nation. Officials said the visit reflects the growing depth of India-UAE relations and their expanding cooperation across sectors amid ongoing global uncertainty.
