May 20, 2026: Narendra Modi gifted a packet of the iconic Indian candy ‘Melody’ to Giorgia Meloni during his visit to Italy, creating a viral moment on social media. Sharing the gesture online, Meloni thanked Modi and described the confectionery as a “very, very good toffee,” drawing amused reactions from users familiar with the nostalgic candy.
Ahead of formal bilateral talks, Meloni hosted Modi for dinner and accompanied him on a visit to the iconic Colosseum. Modi said the two leaders exchanged views on a wide range of issues and expressed confidence that their discussions would further strengthen India-Italy ties.
The Prime Minister also received a warm welcome from the Indian diaspora in Rome, where cultural performances featuring Kathak, Kuchipudi and Bharatnatyam were organised by Indian community members and Italian artists. Modi later interacted with Italian painter Giampaolo Tomassetti, who presented artwork inspired by Varanasi and Indian cultural themes.
