Prime Minister Narendra Modi, addressing Sikkim’s 50th statehood celebrations
April 28, 2026: Narendra Modi on Tuesday said that Sikkim represents the spirit of “Ek Bharat, Shreshtha Bharat,” praising its cultural unity during the 50th Statehood Day celebrations at Paljor Stadium in Gangtok. He said the state stands as a powerful example of India’s diversity and harmony at a time when attempts are being made to divide the nation along linguistic and regional lines.
Modi lauded the cultural performances at the event, calling them a beautiful reflection of India’s unity in diversity. He also described Sikkim as the “pride of the East” and praised its natural beauty, cleanliness, and tourism potential. Referring to his earlier missed visit due to weather conditions, he said his long wait to visit the state had finally ended.
During his two-day visit, the Prime Minister also inaugurated and laid the foundation stone of development projects worth over ₹4,000 crore across sectors such as infrastructure, healthcare, tourism, and agriculture. He urged tourists to visit Sikkim in large numbers, highlighting its orchids, scenic landscapes, and environmental richness.
