In a call with US President Donald Trump, PM Modi expresses gratitude for American support as India intensifies efforts to nab the perpetrators of the Pahalgam Terror Attack
Jeddah/New Delhi, April 23:
Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday thanked US President Donald Trump for expressing deep condolences and support following the terror attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, which claimed the lives of several innocent civilians and tourists.
The Prime Minister, in a conversation with President Trump, condemned the “cowardly and heinous” act and affirmed India’s resolve to bring both the perpetrators and their backers to justice.
🤝 Trump: “US Stands With India Against Terrorism”
President Trump strongly condemned the attack and pledged full American support to India.
“Deeply disturbing news out of Kashmir. The United States stands strong with India against terrorism. We pray for the souls of those lost, and for the recovery of the injured,” Trump said via Truth Social.
“Prime Minister Modi and the incredible people of India have our full support and deepest sympathies. Our hearts are with you all!”
In a post on X, MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal confirmed the call:
“President Trump @realDonaldTrump called PM @narendramodi and conveyed his deepest condolences. President Trump strongly condemned the terror attack and expressed full support to India in bringing the perpetrators to justice.”
🇺🇸 Broad US Support
US Secretary of State Marco Rubio echoed Trump’s sentiments, writing on X:
“The United States stands with India.”
The US State Department’s South and Central Asian Bureau also released a statement condemning the attack and calling for accountability:
“Nothing can justify such a heinous act, killing tourists and civilians. Our thoughts are with those who have lost their loved ones.”
US National Security Advisor Mike Waltz termed the attack “a terrible tragedy” and urged prayers for the victims.
🚨 India’s Security Response
Following the attack, Union Home Minister Amit Shah chaired a high-level security meeting with intelligence and enforcement agencies in Srinagar. He also briefed Prime Minister Modi and directed immediate action.
Jammu & Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, LG Manoj Sinha, Army leadership, and police officials were present at the review meeting. A joint search operation has been launched in the Baisran area of Pahalgam to track down the terrorists.
“On April 22, in a cowardly and heart-wrenching act of violence, terrorists opened fire on innocent tourists and locals,” said the Chinar Corps in a statement.
“Medical teams were swiftly mobilised and casualty evacuation commenced. A joint Army and police operation is currently underway.”

The attack has sparked widespread public outrage in the Valley, with candle marches held across Sopore, Ganderbal, Bandipora, and Handwara, demonstrating solidarity with the victims.
