West Bengal is making extensive preparations for Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit

June 18, 2026: West Bengal Minister Swapan Dasgupta on Thursday said elaborate arrangements are being made for Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to the state on June 20 and 21. The Prime Minister is scheduled to take part in West Bengal Foundation Day celebrations and International Yoga Day events, both of which are expected to be observed on a grand scale in Kolkata.

Dasgupta said this will be the first official celebration of West Bengal Foundation Day with the Prime Minister’s participation. He also highlighted that Modi will lead Yoga Day observances in Kolkata, making the visit a significant occasion for the state. According to him, major programmes have been planned, including large-scale events at Red Road and several community-driven initiatives across the city.

Ahead of the visit, a city-wide cleanliness drive has been launched involving school students, senior citizens and local residents. West Bengal Minister Agnimitra Paul said the six-day campaign aims to clean roads, parks, riverbanks and temples before the Prime Minister’s arrival. Organisers expect strong public participation in both the Foundation Day and Yoga Day events, which are being projected as landmark celebrations.
