Narendra Modi urges MPs to support Women’s Reservation Bill, calls it a historic moment for democracy

April 17, 2026: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday made a direct appeal to Members of Parliament ahead of the crucial Lok Sabha vote on the Women’s Reservation Bill. He urged MPs to reflect on the women in their lives while casting their votes and appealed to them not to deny new opportunities to half of the country’s population.

In a post on X, Modi expressed confidence that the constitutional amendment would be passed with consensus. He said the bill would further strengthen both women’s empowerment and the country’s democratic framework, describing it as a landmark step towards inclusive governance.

Calling on all MPs to come together, the Prime Minister urged them to “create history” by supporting the legislation. He emphasised that granting rightful representation to women would mark a transformative moment for India’s political landscape and future development.
