Rahul Gandhi praises Kerala’s mandate as United Democratic Front moves towards a clear majority.
May 4, 2026: Rahul Gandhi on Monday welcomed the Assembly election results in Kerala, thanking voters for backing the Congress-led United Democratic Front (UDF). According to the Election Commission of India, the UDF has won or is leading in around 87 seats, with the Indian National Congress securing 63 seats and its allies including Indian Union Muslim League contributing significantly.
In a message on X, Gandhi expressed gratitude to the people of Kerala for what he described as a decisive mandate, congratulating party workers for a well-fought campaign. He emphasized that a UDF government would be able to harness the state’s “talent” and “potential,” and said he looks forward to visiting the state soon.
While celebrating the Kerala victory, Congress leaders acknowledged that results in other states were below expectations. Jairam Ramesh said the party remains committed to its ideological fight and will analyze the outcomes. Despite setbacks in states like Assam, West Bengal, and Puducherry, the Congress reiterated its resolve to continue its political and democratic struggle.
