The Congress leader celebrated two years as Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha by highlighting his parliamentary work
June 26, 2026: Congress MP Rahul Gandhi on Friday marked two years as the Leader of the Opposition (LoP) in the Lok Sabha, reaffirming his commitment to represent people’s voices both inside Parliament and on the streets. Gandhi, who assumed the post in June 2024 after the INDIA bloc backed his candidature, described the role as his first constitutional parliamentary responsibility since entering politics in 2004. Sharing a video and newsletter on social media, he said every day of his tenure had been dedicated to carrying the concerns of ordinary citizens to the country’s decision-makers.
Highlighting his work over the past two years, Gandhi said he had consistently spoken on issues such as the NEET examination, alleged electoral irregularities, social justice, and constitutional values. The newsletter also referred to his nationwide student outreach campaign launched from Kota, Rajasthan, where he raised concerns over the rising cost of education and the pressure faced by students and families. According to Gandhi, parents spend nearly ₹1.3 lakh crore annually on NEET coaching, an amount comparable to the Union government’s education budget.
The Congress leader also outlined four key pledges for the future: fighting for social justice, exposing alleged “vote theft”, listening to the people, and standing for India’s interests. The newsletter further highlighted his advocacy for a caste census, support for farmers, workers, students, and Bahujan communities, and his criticism of the Centre’s economic and trade policies. Gandhi reiterated his resolve to continue promoting what he described as the “politics of love” while defending the Constitution and democratic values throughout his tenure as Leader of the Opposition.
