Rahul Gandhi met auto-rickshaw drivers near Bengali Market in Delhi and discussed issues related to rising fuel prices, expenses
May 29, 2026: Rahul Gandhi on Friday met auto-rickshaw drivers in central Delhi and shared lunch with them during an informal interaction focused on the challenges faced by transport workers. The Congress leader spent around half an hour at Todarmal Road near Bengali Market, where he spoke with drivers gathered at Todarmal Park about rising fuel prices, maintenance expenses and declining incomes.
During the visit, Rahul Gandhi engaged directly with auto-rickshaw operators and listened to their concerns regarding increasing operational costs and financial pressure in the transport sector. He was also seen sharing a meal with one of the drivers as part of the outreach programme. Similar public interactions with labourers, delivery workers and transport operators have become a regular part of Rahul Gandhi’s outreach activities in recent years.
The interaction came shortly after a major transport strike disrupted services across Delhi-NCR between May 21 and May 23. Several transport unions had organised a large-scale “chakka jam” protest, demanding fare revisions and policy support due to rising fuel and maintenance costs. Rahul Gandhi’s visit is being viewed as part of the Congress party’s efforts to connect with working-class groups and highlight economic concerns affecting ordinary citizens.
