June 3, 2026: Leader of the Opposition Rahul Gandhi paid tribute to former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi on his birth anniversary, describing him as a towering political figure who devoted his life to social justice, equality and the rights of marginalized communities. In his message, Gandhi praised Karunanidhi’s contributions as a leader, writer, poet and thinker who consistently advocated for the dignity of the Tamil people and the principles of constitutional equality.
Remembering the late DMK patriarch, Gandhi said Karunanidhi’s influence extended far beyond electoral politics. He highlighted the veteran leader’s role in shaping Tamil Nadu’s political and social landscape through his commitment to inclusive governance and welfare-oriented policies. Gandhi noted that Karunanidhi’s vision of justice and equal rights continues to inspire political discourse across the country.
Earlier in the day, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin, along with senior DMK leaders and party workers, paid floral tributes to Karunanidhi. Commemorative events were held across the state to honour the late leader’s contributions to Tamil culture, literature and public life. Widely regarded as one of Tamil Nadu’s most influential political figures, Karunanidhi’s legacy remains closely associated with social reform, federalism and the empowerment of disadvantaged communities.
