Rahul Gandhi to address rallies in Kolkata and Serampore after police clearance

April 22, 2026: A day after cancelling scheduled rallies due to lack of police permission, the Congress has rescheduled Rahul Gandhi’s campaign events in West Bengal for April 25. According to party officials, the first rally will take place at Shahid Minar Maidan in Kolkata, followed by another in Serampore later in the day.

Earlier, the rallies planned for April 23 in locations including Park Circus and Metiabruz were cancelled after authorities denied permission. The Congress has alleged that the decision was influenced by the ruling All India Trinamool Congress, a charge that adds to the ongoing political tensions in the state.

With elections to the 294-member assembly set to be held in two phases on April 23 and April 29, the rescheduling puts Gandhi back on the campaign trail at a crucial time. The counting of votes is scheduled for May 4, making the coming days critical for all major parties in the state.
