Rajnath Singh warns of consequences amid rising tensions with Pakistan

April 22, 2026: On the first anniversary of the Pahalgam terror attack, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh issued a veiled warning to Pakistan, stating that any attempt to create trouble would invite consequences. Recalling Operation Sindoor, he reiterated India’s stance, remarking that while relations with most neighbours are stable, “only one is troublesome.”

Speaking during his visit to Berlin, Singh also highlighted India’s growing defence capabilities, noting a shift from import dependence to becoming an exporter. He said defence exports have reached nearly ₹39,000 crore, underlining the country’s strengthening military and industrial capacity.

His remarks come amid heightened rhetoric following statements by Pakistan’s Defence Minister Khawaja Asif and the lingering tensions after the 2025 Pahalgam attack that killed 26 civilians. India’s subsequent strikes under Operation Sindoor continue to shape the security narrative, with both sides maintaining a firm posture.
