April 14, 2026: Senior BJP leader Samrat Choudhary has been chosen as Bihar’s next Chief Minister, marking a major political shift as Nitish Kumar steps down after a long tenure and moves to the Rajya Sabha. Choudhary was unanimously elected leader of the BJP legislative party, clearing the way for his elevation, with formal approval expected from the NDA alliance. The transition signals the beginning of a BJP-led leadership phase in the state.

At 57, Choudhary has emerged as a key strategist and prominent face of the BJP in Bihar. His political journey spans multiple parties, including the Rashtriya Janata Dal and JD(U), before joining the BJP in 2017, which accelerated his rise. He later became state BJP president in 2023 and served as Deputy Chief Minister after the 2025 Assembly elections, playing a central role in governance and party expansion.

An influential OBC leader from the Koeri-Kushwaha community, Choudhary holds strong electoral significance in Bihar’s caste dynamics. Known for his assertive style, he has been instrumental in strengthening the BJP’s position in the state. With declared assets of ₹11.34 crore and a long political career, he is now set to lead Bihar into a new phase under BJP leadership.
