AAP MLA alleges delayed action as Delhi CM warns private schools over forced purchases of uniforms and books

May 1, 2026: Saurabh Bharadwaj has accused Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta of “making a fool” of people after she posted a video warning private schools against forcing parents to buy uniforms, books and stationery from specific vendors. The video, shared by the Delhi CMO on X, shows Gupta saying strict action will be taken against schools violating rules and that she can inspect any school at any time.

Bharadwaj, however, claimed the warning comes too late as the academic session in Delhi begins on April 1 and most parents had already purchased school supplies by mid-March. He said families are often compelled to pay high fees and additional charges, sometimes spending up to ₹15,000 on books and uniforms before the session even starts.

He further alleged that students are pressured by schools after the session begins, ensuring compliance with uniform and book requirements within weeks. Criticising the government, Bharadwaj said that instead of symbolic warnings, the focus should be on addressing steep fee hikes, which he claimed have risen by up to 80 percent without meaningful action against private schools so far.
