Suvendu Adhikari intensified his attack on the All India Trinamool Congress leadership ahead of the Falta bypoll
May 16, 2026: Ahead of the Falta bypoll scheduled for May 21, Suvendu Adhikari launched a sharp attack on senior All India Trinamool Congress leader Abhishek Banerjee without naming him directly. Addressing a public rally in Falta, Suvendu claimed he had obtained details of the leader’s alleged properties from the Kolkata Municipal Corporation. Referring indirectly to Abhishek Banerjee, he said, “Respected nephew babu, yesterday I got the property list from the Kolkata Municipal Corporation… 24 properties in Kolkata. A palace-like office in Amtala.”
The Chief Minister also alleged that political violence during the previous regime had been carried out with police support and warned strict action against those involved. Referring to an alleged attack on people attending his rally in Hotuganj in December 2023, he said no one remains in power forever. Suvendu claimed he had directed police officials to start recording complaints related to alleged atrocities over the past five years and ensure FIRs and arrests in all such cases. He further said that no “goon” involved in crimes against women, children or political workers would be spared.
During the rally, Suvendu also touched upon issues including post-poll violence, the RG Kar Medical College rape and murder case investigation and the implementation of the Citizenship Amendment Act. He claimed that families of BJP workers allegedly killed in political violence would be provided government jobs. On the citizenship issue, he reiterated that refugees covered under the CAA would be allowed to stay while “infiltrators” would be deported. He also alleged that reopening the RG Kar investigation would expose the “misdeeds” of the previous government once call records and chats linked to former officials become public.
