Former AAP leader accuses Arvind Kejriwal of misconduct and backs BJP leadership

April 25, 2026: Rajya Sabha MP Swati Maliwal has announced her exit from the Aam Aadmi Party and joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), launching a sharp attack on Arvind Kejriwal. Speaking to media, Maliwal said she had been associated with Kejriwal since 2006 but decided to leave due to what she described as serious personal and political differences.

Maliwal alleged that she was assaulted at her residence and later pressured to withdraw the FIR she had filed. She also claimed that she was denied opportunities to speak in Parliament for two years and accused Kejriwal of being “anti-women.” Further targeting the AAP leadership, she alleged misuse of power in Punjab, linking the government to issues such as illegal sand mining and rising drug abuse, while also accusing the party of filing cases against dissenting leaders.

Defending her move, Maliwal said she joined the BJP voluntarily, expressing faith in the leadership of Narendra Modi and Amit Shah. She praised their governance and called on others interested in “constructive politics” to join the party. Her exit marks a significant political development ahead of upcoming elections, intensifying the ongoing rivalry between BJP and AAP.
