Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Vijay and his estranged wife Sangeetha Sornalingam appeared before a Chengalpattu court

June 15, 2026: Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Vijay and his estranged wife, Sangeetha Sornalingam, appeared before the Chengalpattu Mahila Court on Monday in connection with their ongoing divorce proceedings. The matter was heard during the morning session, after which the court postponed further proceedings and scheduled the next hearing for August 7.

The divorce petition was filed by Sangeetha earlier this year under the Special Marriage Act. In her plea, she accused Vijay of infidelity and alleged that he maintained a relationship with another woman despite repeated assurances that it would end. She claimed the situation caused emotional distress to her and their children, Jason Sanjay and Divya Sasha. Sangeetha also alleged that several personal and financial privileges available to her were withdrawn, resulting in mental harassment and humiliation.

The couple married in 1999 and have been together for more than two decades. The case was first listed for hearing in April, but both parties were absent, prompting the court to direct their appearance on June 15. Meanwhile, Vijay recently entered full-time politics after leading Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) to victory in the Tamil Nadu Assembly elections and taking oath as Chief Minister in May. His final film, Jana Nayagan, is also awaiting certification clearance.
