Lalu Prasad Yadav hands over organisational charge as party signals generational transition
January 25, 2026: At the Rashtriya Janata Dal’s national executive committee meeting in Patna on Sunday, Tejashwi Yadav was officially appointed as the party’s new National Working President, marking a significant generational shift in the RJD’s leadership. The decision was taken at a meeting held at Hotel Maurya, presided over by party supremo and former Bihar Chief Minister Lalu Prasad Yadav. Senior leaders, including Rabri Devi and Misa Bharti, were also present at the session.
The appointment comes amid growing expectations that Lalu Prasad Yadav, facing age-related and health concerns, would gradually pass on organisational responsibilities to the next generation. Party leaders said the meeting focused on assessing the current political scenario and chalking out strategies for upcoming elections, along with key organisational changes to strengthen the party structure.
According to RJD sources, Tejashwi Yadav’s elevation is part of a broader restructuring plan aimed at consolidating the party’s base and preparing it for future electoral battles. The move reflects the RJD’s attempt to balance continuity with renewal, combining the guidance of senior leaders with Tejashwi’s leadership in shaping the party’s future direction.
