A dispute over goats allegedly kept inside a Mira Road housing complex ahead of Eid al-Adha triggered protests
May 26, 2026: Clashes broke out in Mumbai’s Mira Road area after protests erupted over an alleged plan to keep goats inside a residential complex ahead of Eid al-Adha celebrations. Visuals showed demonstrators gathered outside Poonam Cluster 1, objecting to the presence of goats within the society premises. Tensions escalated as members of different communities confronted each other during the protest.
Vishwa Hindu Parishad coordinator Harsh Singh alleged that around 40 to 50 goats had been brought into the premises illegally. He claimed the presence of the animals caused inconvenience to residents, especially senior citizens, and said the municipal corporation had not granted permission for the arrangement. Singh also alleged that he was attacked with a knife during the altercation and demanded that police add attempt to murder charges in the FIR registered in the case.
According to reports, the municipal corporation had earlier removed a temporary shed built for the goats after complaints from residents. However, tensions flared again when members of the Muslim community allegedly began rebuilding the structure, leading to fresh protests both inside and outside the society. Heavy police deployment was seen in the area as authorities worked to control the situation and prevent further escalation.
