LeT suspected of plotting IED attack targeting temple in Chandni Chowk
February 21, 2026: An intelligence alert has been sounded in Delhi following inputs warning of a possible terror threat near the Red Fort. Sources indicate that a temple in the Chandni Chowk area could be a potential target, with security agencies stepping up surveillance around key religious sites. According to inputs, the Pakistan-based outfit Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) may be planning an improvised explosive device (IED) attack in the vicinity.
Intelligence sources claim the group is allegedly seeking to avenge a February 6 blast at a mosque in Islamabad and could be preparing for a major strike in India. Authorities have heightened security in and around Chandni Chowk and other prominent temples across the country amid concerns that major religious sites remain under threat perception.
The alert comes months after the November 10, 2025 car explosion near the Red Fort that killed 12 people. The blast occurred close to Gate No. 1 of the Red Fort Metro Station when an explosives-laden vehicle detonated. Meanwhile, the National Investigation Agency (NIA) continues its probe into the case, with a special NIA court recently extending the investigation period and the judicial custody of seven accused.
