The National Testing Agency (NTA) has officially opened the application window for the UGC National Eligibility Test (NET) June 2026 cycle. Aspiring candidates looking to qualify for Junior Research Fellowship (JRF), appointment as Assistant Professor, or admission to PhD programs can now submit their applications through the official portal at ugcnet.nta.nic.in.

This session is particularly significant as it marks the expansion of the NET curriculum following a high-level decision by the University Grants Commission.

Major Update: ‘Statistics’ Introduced as a New Subject

In a move to cater to the growing demand for data science and analytical expertise in academia, the UGC has introduced ‘Statistics’ as an independent subject starting this June. The decision was finalized during the Commission’s 597th meeting held on April 18, 2026. With this addition, the total number of subjects offered in the UGC NET has increased to approximately 85, providing a specialized pathway for postgraduate students in the field of statistical sciences.

Eligibility and Application Process

Candidates must hold a Master’s degree (or equivalent) with at least 55% marks (50% for SC/ST/OBC-NCL/PwD/Third Gender) to be eligible. Those currently in the final year of their postgraduate studies are also eligible to apply provisionally.

How to Apply:

  1. Log on to ugcnet.nta.nic.in.
  2. Complete the initial registration to generate a Login ID and Password.
  3. Fill out the detailed application form, including educational qualifications and subject choice.
  4. Upload scanned copies of your photograph and signature as per the specified dimensions.
  5. Pay the application fee: ₹1,150 (General), ₹600 (OBC-NCL/EWS), or ₹325 (SC/ST/PwD/Third Gender).
  6. Submit and print the Confirmation Page for future reference.
