The Uttar Pradesh government has connected over 13,500 UPSRTC buses with live tracking systems

May 20, 2026: The Uttar Pradesh government has expanded the use of live tracking technology across Uttar Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation (UPSRTC) buses as part of efforts to strengthen passenger safety and improve road monitoring. According to officials, more than 13,500 buses have now been linked with Vehicle Location Tracking Devices (VLTD), allowing real-time tracking of buses serving over 16 lakh passengers every day. The entire system is being monitored through a central Command and Control Centre in Lucknow along with 20 regional monitoring centres functioning round the clock.

Officials said the technology continuously tracks driver behaviour and operational parameters, including over-speeding, sudden braking, sharp turns, route deviations and violation of prescribed speed limits. Daily monitoring reports are prepared at the UPSRTC headquarters, and drivers violating safety norms are issued warnings or face disciplinary action. Authorities claim that the system has played an important role in reducing road accidents across the state.

UPSRTC buses have also been equipped with panic buttons to assist passengers and staff during emergencies. Once activated, alerts are sent simultaneously to the UPSRTC Command Centre and the Uttar Pradesh Police control room for immediate response. Officials said over 5,000 alerts are received daily. Passengers can also track the live location of buses through the UPSRTC Margdarshi portal and the “Track My Bus” feature available on the corporation’s official website.
