Residents shower flowers on police amid tight security in Delhi

March 21, 2026: Residents in Uttam Nagar created a moment of calm on Saturday as members of the Muslim community showered flower petals on police personnel after Eid ul-Fitr prayers. The gesture came amid heightened tensions in the area following recent clashes, making the peaceful celebration especially significant. The locality had been on edge since a 26-year-old man died in violence reportedly triggered by a dispute during Holi celebrations earlier this month.

A video circulating online shows residents expressing gratitude by showering petals on officers, including personnel from the Rapid Action Force, who were deployed in large numbers to maintain order. Security was tightened across key locations, especially near the Uttam Nagar East Metro Station, following directions from the Delhi High Court to ensure strict arrangements ahead of upcoming festivals, including Ram Navami.

Heavy police deployment, barricading, and identity checks were carried out in areas like Hastsal village and nearby localities. DCP Dwarka Kushal Pal Singh said patrolling and monitoring have been intensified, including surveillance of social media to prevent rumours. Authorities confirmed that only verified residents were allowed entry into certain zones, with restrictions placed on outsiders to maintain peace and prevent any untoward incidents.
