VCK leader Sinthanai Selvan criticised Vijay and his party’s handling of post-election negotiations
May 8, 2026: Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi has sharply criticised Vijay and his party Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam over its efforts to gather support for government formation in Tamil Nadu. The criticism comes as TVK continues its struggle to secure enough MLAs to cross the majority mark after its strong electoral debut. According to reports, TVK still requires support from 12 additional legislators, with VCK among the smaller parties holding key numbers.
VCK general secretary Sinthanai Selvan questioned whether Vijay was mishandling the post-election situation or being misled by second-rung leaders around him. In a strongly worded social media post, Selvan criticised the reported decision to send a support request through WhatsApp instead of meeting party leaders personally. He argued that Vijay should have approached allies directly and openly discussed preventing what he described as BJP attempts to use the Governor’s office to impose indirect rule in Tamil Nadu.
Selvan also accused Vijay of displaying arrogance after the election victory and criticised his remarks against dynastic politics while simultaneously aligning with the Congress party. He further alleged that TVK leaders were reviving “resort politics” by keeping MLAs confined and warned that wrong political advice around Vijay was damaging his efforts to secure broader support. The remarks highlight the growing political tensions and complicated alliance negotiations underway as TVK attempts to form the government in Tamil Nadu.
