The clip shows tightly packed crowds pushing against a locked metal gate, which eventually collapsed under pressure, causing people to fall over one another.

The chaos claimed 11 lives and left dozens injured as people struggled to breathe and find space amid the stampede. The victims were among the massive crowd that had assembled to celebrate RCB’s historic first IPL title after 18 seasons.

Event Spirals Out of Control
Despite security preparations, the Karnataka government underestimated the crowd turnout. Originally, passes were to be issued, but an announcement of free public entry caused thousands to flock to the stadium. According to Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, over 2-3 lakh people showed up at the venue, which has a seating capacity of just 35,000.

Government Response
CM Siddaramaiah admitted to being caught off guard, stating:
“We did not expect such a massive turnout. Neither the cricket association nor the government anticipated this.”
He announced a ₹10 lakh compensation for each deceased victim’s family and free medical treatment for the injured.
Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar acknowledged the administration’s limitations:
“We had arranged more than 5,000 personnel, but the crowd was uncontrollable. This is a young crowd; we couldn’t use force like lathi-charge. I apologise for the overcrowding.”
Inside the Stadium
While tragedy unfolded outside, the event inside Chinnaswamy continued with fireworks and speeches. IPL Chairman Arun Dhumal said organisers inside the stadium were initially unaware of the crisis:
“Once they were informed, RCB officials assured they would quickly conclude the programme.”
The Royal Challengers Bengaluru franchise later issued a statement expressing grief:
“We are deeply anguished by the unfortunate incidents… The safety and well-being of everyone is of utmost importance to us… We mourn the tragic loss of lives and urge our supporters to stay safe.”
Political Fallout
The Karnataka BJP has demanded accountability from the Congress-led government, pointing to serious lapses in crowd management and a failure to assess the situation properly.
