Actor-turned-politician Vijay’s party surges past majority mark, sparking reactions even from rival camp.
May 4, 2026: As early trends point to a major political shift in Tamil Nadu, a worker from the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) has openly backed actor-turned-politician Vijay as the state’s next chief minister. The remark comes as Vijay’s party, Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), appears to be heading towards a historic debut victory.
According to early counting trends, TVK is leading in over 130 seats, comfortably crossing the majority mark of 118 in the 234-member assembly. In contrast, the ruling DMK is trailing in distant third position, managing leads only in the 20s, indicating a dramatic shift in voter preference.
Reacting to the trends, DMK worker Lakshmi Priya said people were expecting change and expressed hope that Vijay would bring positive transformation to the state. “Vijay will do something good for Tamil Nadu. He will be the next Chief Minister,” she said, reflecting the growing buzz around the actor’s potential political breakthrough.
