May 12, 2026: The newly formed Tamil Nadu government has appointed Rickey Radhan Pandit Vettrivel, widely known as Chief Minister C Joseph Vijay’s personal astrologer and spiritual advisor, as Officer on Special Duty (Political) in the Chief Minister’s Office. The appointment order was issued by Principal Secretary Reeta Harish Thakkar, stating that the appointment would come into effect from the date he assumes charge. The government added that detailed terms and conditions for the post would be issued separately.
The appointment has attracted political attention due to Radhan Pandit’s long-standing association with prominent political leaders in Tamil Nadu, including former Chief Minister J. Jayalalithaa. Political circles have often claimed that Jayalalithaa consulted him before taking important political decisions during her tenure. In recent years, his connection with Vijay also became increasingly visible, especially during the Assembly elections when he reportedly predicted the victory of Vijay’s Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK).
Radhan Pandit has reportedly been practising astrology and spiritual counselling for nearly four decades and has built a large following through consultations and social media outreach. Following TVK’s election victory, he was seen visiting Vijay’s residence to personally congratulate the new chief minister. His appointment to a formal political advisory role in the Chief Minister’s Office is being viewed as a significant and unusual development in Tamil Nadu politics.
