Former Tamil Nadu BJP chief K. Annamalai met senior BJP leaders in New Delhi to discuss his future role, Tamil Nadu politics,
June 3, 2026: Former Tamil Nadu BJP president K. Annamalai held a series of important meetings with the party’s top leadership in New Delhi, including Union Home Minister Amit Shah, BJP national president Nitin Nabin, and national general secretary (organisation) B.L. Santhosh. The discussions have sparked fresh speculation about Annamalai’s political future after he stepped down as the state BJP chief in April 2025. Sources said the meetings focused on his future responsibilities within the party and the political situation in Tamil Nadu.
According to party sources, Annamalai raised concerns about the BJP’s performance in the recent Tamil Nadu Assembly elections and the impact of its alliance strategy with the AIADMK. He reportedly argued that the party should focus on strengthening its independent support base and grassroots network rather than relying heavily on electoral alliances. The discussions also covered the changing political landscape in the state, including the emergence of new political forces and challenges facing the BJP.
The BJP leadership is understood to have assured support for a statewide public outreach initiative that Annamalai is keen to launch. Sources also indicated that he is exploring the idea of a volunteer-driven socio-political movement aimed at engaging youth, professionals, and community leaders across Tamil Nadu. While speculation continues about the possibility of the platform evolving into a political party in the future, no formal decision has been announced. Annamalai reportedly declined a Rajya Sabha berth, signalling his preference for direct public engagement and organisational work on the ground.
