Security scare at White House event prompts evacuation as FBI launches investigation;
April 26, 2026: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday expressed concern over the shooting incident reported at a White House event in Washington, stating he was relieved that US President Donald Trump, First Lady Melania Trump, and Vice President JD Vance were safe and unharmed. He extended his wishes for their continued safety and strongly emphasised that violence has no place in a democracy and must be unequivocally condemned.
The incident occurred during an event linked to the White House Correspondents’ dinner, where reports of gunfire led to a sudden security evacuation of attendees, including senior US officials. Authorities said there were no immediate reports of injuries, but confirmed that a shooting had taken place, triggering a rapid emergency response.
Law enforcement officials identified the suspect as 31-year-old Cole Tomas Allen from Torrance, California. The FBI confirmed that the accused is in custody and is leading the investigation. US Attorney Jeanine Pirro said preliminary charges include firearm use and assaulting an officer, with further charges expected as the inquiry continues.
